FACT: The biggest causes of poorly closed rings are laziness and junk rings (anything that's not saw-cut). Only a fool with cognitive defects would say or think otherwise since the math and science of a properly closed ring are indisputable.

Two truths are fundamental in chain link construction. The first states that the rings must be closed properly. The second is that a finished piece cannot be made to high standards with pinch- or shear-cut rings. Inferior rings can only make inferior products. Quality can't matter if these eyesores appear.

With a little manipulation, nearly every ring in a given chainmaille pattern can be fully inspected along its entire surface. Poor workmanship can't be hidden. For the consumer that wants a piece that looks good from about 10 or 15 feet away then CRAFT would suffice.

Like the seven Ps, there are seven Ss or thereabouts:
  • Strive for greatness all the time
  • Spend time and money to do it right
  • Select saw-cut rings
  • Show a responsible and purposeful passion
  • Sound intelligent and be professional
  • Say what you do and do what you say
  • Speak up when something isn't right
  • Sell the best and scrap the rest

According to the way these categories have been arranged, most maille is CRAFT or lower. From the dollar store to the luxury department store, chainmaille is definitely associated with the former. When someone starts ridiculing maille it's tough to argue back. We deserve the stereotype until we prove otherwise.
