I'm going to complain loudly and unapologetically about doping and cheating. Not in sports but jewelry and chainmail. Simply, nearly every seller claiming to have handmade goods (handmade has a legal definition which is all but ignored) or uses similarly defined LEGAL terminology is lying. Naturally, you think this can't be possible.

So how can facts be presented without sounding like you have a bone to pick? If you ask the wrongdoers then scapegoating and name-calling are their preferred defenses, anything but admitting the truth, taking responsibility, or being accountable. It switches from the veracity of the statement to something else that somehow absolves them of their deliberate fraud.

Lies easily supplant truth because honesty costs money and fraudsters will not be deprived of their payday! Handmade goods cost more. Precious metals are more expensive than illegally hallmarked fake crap BECAUSE THEY ARE REAL! There are probably more fake precious metals than real and sellers knowingly pander them. General industry practices prove that deception is highly profitable and pervasive.

Subjective claims, which every seller relies upon, drown out the truth especially for those that are honest:
  • You have to see it to believe it. Pictures don't do it justice!
  • Quality is important (valuing quality versus actually doing something to improve it are two different animals)
  • My products are exceptional
  • I only use the best materials

Scientific and mathematical certainties are not influenced by opinions so disproving bogus claims is easy. For instance, the size of the gap or misaligned closure can be measured on butted jump rings. You can literally be blindfolded and still identify a pinch-cut, shear-cut, poorly made, damaged, deformed, or improperly closed ring.

But why accept substandard, dangerous, or counterfeit products at any price?!

Cheaper pieces will always attempt to ""resemble"" far nicer ones. But why accept substandard, dangerous, or counterfeit products at any price?! Maybe perception is more important than reality for some, a delusional mental placebo.

Disregarding the BS, more importantly was anyone slaughtered during any part of the manufacturing process? Does it enrich foreign warlords who threaten their workers with violence? Sweatshops, forced, or child labor? Environmental destruction? Exploiting people and natural resources?

Every consumer encourages this unless they take purposeful action instead of just pretending or saying they care. With jewelry it's particularly bad. An upstanding, intelligent person would know better and not support such horrors.

I have registered trademarks and hallmarks to be accountable for my products. I create everything from scratch instead of just assembling low-quality pre-manufactured parts into equally insulting junk. My products are the real deal and have an impeccable pedigree.

Consider this analogy: Let's say a jar of certified organic raw unfiltered honey is $12. A "similar" bottle is $2. FYI, honey can't be made for that price. If you like that it says it is then you are the easy, ignorant victim scam artists covet. I desire educated and discriminating consumers who appreciate, value, and know what they're buying.
